Adventure!

Cole is getting a little spoiled by what we call "mommy days." When the kids aren't in school, nine times out of ten, we go on a family field trip. Truthfully, it's not so much for them as it is me--I can only go to so many parks. Trying to grocery shop with them is riskier than juggling knives. And the house closes in on me if we're here longer than two hours in a row.

So we've been exploring the city, poking around science museums, hiking spots, and nature centers. Cole calls these excursions "adventures," and now moans and whines if I suggest we do something he thinks is pedestrian.

Today, therefore, we ended up here:
Its a botanical garden about 15 minutes from our place, in a town that's huddled next to the mountain range that caught fire this past summer. It's not as grand as the Huntington, but it's got enough to fill up a morning walkabout. I'm not a botanical nut, but it's filled with Camillas, which are nice at this time of year.

Being without a job has its perks.
