Riis's funny new thing is to point imperiously every time you pick her up, her chubby little arm outstretched and her index finger pointed. "Da!" she says, clearly instructing the train to start moving toward her target. Yesterday she steered me around the room, squealing and cooing and babbling about the light switch, refrigerator magnets, and a stray Iron Man figure.
Sometimes, though, she'll just be looking at something dully and then--bam!--become super surprised, like someone just revealed a big secret. "Ooooh" she exclaims, drawing in a series of quick breaths and widening her eyes. We have no idea what the hell that's all about.

Cole, as we're walking down Kirby Street last night, spotted a car jutting out of a driveway at a weird angle. He frowned. "Mom, that car's not parked correctly," he pointed out.
"Correctly?" Poor thing. He has word people for parents.
